"Monarch"
4/22/22, Cacapon Resort State Park
Permanently located outside the Nature Center at Cacapon Resort State Park in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, the monarch mosaic was created in collaboration with the Morgan Arts Council. Michele Pasciullo led the artistic side with the administrative and outreach support of Susan Kirschner, VP of MAC. The Lodge generously supplied accommodations for Michele while she became the Artist in Residence for a week while completing the mosaic. Visitors to the Nature Center during the week of April 15, 2022, were able to work on a piece of the mural, contributing caterpillars, butterflies, bees, flowers, cocoons, and spirals. Final installation took place to coincide with Earth Day.
The monarch mosaic mural was created to add visual impact to draw visitors to the Nature Center as well as a teaching tool to show the lifecycle of the monarch butterfly, marking the park as a stopping point for them on their journey. Many volunteers came together to help birth this project. Special thanks to Brad Rice, Susan Kirschner, Dale Kirschner, and Ranger Valerie for having the vision to see the final result and help make it happen!!
Ventnor Cultural Arts Center
6500 Ventnor Avenue, Ventnor NJ
Began in 2016 as a creative collaboration with Sue Van Duyne Hunter, Director of Ventnor Cultural Arts Center, this ongoing mosaic mural has grown to cover over 200 square feet of the courtyard and pollinator garden walls. During its 6+ years of life it has evolved from a way to repurpose discarded pottery and tile to a way of bringing hundreds of people together to beautify the city’s community center and gardens. Open for public viewing and enjoyment!
